[PART 2] Jay Park “I want to work with Tae-Yang, too.”

Q: You had to give up what you enjoy doing when you were in the States. How did you get over that? Jay: It was very tough. A lot of people got hurt because of me and I also felt very bad. So I just stayed quiet. I just practiced and worked part-time in a tire shop. It was very helpful to do b-boying again. It was good to dance together (with other b-boys) because I couldn’t do b-boying while I was doing the group activities. So I got eager to do it again. I felt glad I could do b-boying despite the fact that I could not do other activities. Q: Then, what kind of music style do you want to go after when you resume your activities? Jay: I can’t really specify that by saying ‘I want to do hip-hop’ or ‘I want to do R&B.’ I don’t sing as well as Kim Johan hyung nor I can rap as cool as JK hyung. Instead, I want to improve myself in doing both. Also, I want to include dancing because I like dancing, too. Do you know Drake by any chance? I like his music style. I also like Usher and Chris Brown. In addition, I’d like to do music which I can participate in the making of.

Q: Have you written any songs yourself?

Jay: I havn’t composed music yet but I can write lyrics or make some melodies. I wrote the lyrics for ‘Bestie’ while my friend made the beats. I’m not sure if it all makes sense because I wrote the lyrics in Korean not in English. (laugh) My heart flutters thinking what people’s reactions would be.

Q: Have you decided which musicians would participate in your new album? Or do you have any particular musician you want to work with or you’re interested in?

Jay: I’ve recently participated in numerous collaborations. I collaborated with Dok2, Brave Brothers and Kim Johan hyung. I personally like Tae-Yang very much. I’d like to work with Tae-Yang.

Q: So are you now allowed to work on the music you like without any trouble?

Jay: Sure. I’d like to work with many musicians and that’s the fun part. When someone I like ask me “Do you want to do this?”, I can just say “Yes, I do”. I really like it.

Q: Are you planning to make your new album in such way, too?

Jay: Yes. I think I’ll get better music this way.

Q: If you do it that way, you have to participate in the production and you’ll also get more responsibilities. What do you think of that?

Jay: I really like it. (laugh) It would be a way to make better music. I will work harder because I’ll be working on the music I like and I can do the music that fits my style. And I can also select the song, dance and hair style for myself.
